Blue Topaz is the hardest of the silicate minerals. Topaz crystals can weigh hundreds of pounds! Common Topaz in its natural state is colourless, though trace impurities can make it pale blue or golden brown to yellow orange. It is classed orthorhombic and has a hardness of 8 on the Mohs scale.
