Mapping Consciousness

In this day and age, we are subjected to all kinds of ideas on what the world is and how we should relate to it through our media, our education and all kinds of other outlets of our culture. Many of these voices that we hear and often buy into are not coherent and this tends to cause all kinds of confusion and chaos within our psyches, causing us to be hesitant in pursuing our hearts desires.

Through the practice of mapping out consciousness through the use of tarot and other archetypal filing systems, we can step out of our programmed conditioning which causes us to be unsure as to what the right course of action is in any given situation.

When you begin to study the basic archetypes, and start to understand how you relate to them, you suddenly know what stance to take immediately when confronted with situations that display the archetypes you’ve come to know. This then results in a sort of freeing of one’s consciousness, alleviating the struggle that comes with being unsure of how to navigate certain types of situations.

Really understanding archetypal energies so that you can readily identify them in your every day life is a bit of a process, and there are many levels to the process, but I can at least give you an idea of how you might start out in your exploration of this stuff.

To get started, you’ll want to choose a system. There are many many many systems out there. My best suggestion is to explore and feel which direction best suits your purpose and your beliefs.

Mayan Dreamspell

Developed by Jose Argueles based on his interpretation of the Maya. This system uses 20 glyphs with 13 tones each, creating 260 frequencies to work with. The dreamspell is technically a calendar system but is far advanced from what we in the western world have come to know in terms of time keeping. The 20 glyphs relate to the 20 digits(fingers and toes), the 13 tones relate to the 13 chakras(the 13 major joints). This system was created with integration in mind and is easily compatible with many other systems, such as the i-ching.

I-Ching

The I-Ching is one of the oldest forms of consciousness mapping available at this time.
In this system there are 64 hexagrams which correspond to the 64 codons in human DNA.

BOTA tarot correspondences

This group has taken the 22 major arcana in Paul Foster-Cayce’s tarot deck and matched them up with color, note, hebrew letter, astrological and alchemical correspondences.
They use a 12 pointed star to illustrate these correspondences, which makes it a great tool for 12 tone(western scale) musical divination. Also a great way to learn the hebrew alphabet and understand the underlying power that it holds. This system is widely used and so there is a lot of collective energy behind it.

Again, there are many paths out there. It’s always best to explore for yourself and go where you are called. It really doesn’t matter which path you choose as all these markers are inherently arbitrary when you get right down to it. You could just as well create your own system, but you also must consider that navigating in this way takes time to adjust to and it can be HUGELY beneficial to have support that understands what you’re going through. For this reason I would strongly suggest that you at least start out within an established mapping system.
