Iolite

Iolite is the gemstone form of Cordierite (Magnesium Aluminum Silicate.)  In the viewing an iolite stone, the colors violet blue, yellow gray and a light blue can be seen, all a result of pleochroism (three different color shades in the same stone.)  Sometimes it is known as "water sapphire."  The Vikings looked through thin iolite lenses, which worked as a filter, to determine the exact position of the sun and navigate safely.  Iolite opens spiritual pathways.  It allows gentle communication to our higher selves, which often results in sudden bursts of inspiration and intuition.  Iolite is an important stone in shamanic medicine, as it stimulates visions, and accuracy within them.  Use iolite in guided mediation, or for astral travel.  It can balance male and female aspects of your character, and releases general discord.  Use iolite when focusing on eliminating debt, and when dealing with responsibility.

Physically, iolite aids the liver, rids toxins, and is helpful in cases of malaria and fever.
Iolite is associated with the brow chakra and crown chakra.  It helps energy flow between throat, brow, and crown
